Sunderland’s Clarke Draws Interest from Premier League Clubs; Liverpool Eyes Alternatives

Sunderland’s talented forward, Jonathan Clarke, has caught the attention of Premier League newcomers Burnley and Brentford as they consider winter transfer moves. Clarke’s impressive form in the Championship, with seven goals in 11 appearances this season, has made him an attractive prospect for top-flight clubs.
Sunderland, determined to hold onto their key asset, rejected a bid of just over £10 million during the summer transfer window. Now, sources suggest that the club will demand around £15 million for Clarke, whose contract runs until 2026. This potential sale would yield a substantial profit for Sunderland, as they originally acquired the striker for just under £1 million in 2021.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s pursuit of a left-sided defender has led them to Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie. Talks have been confirmed between Liverpool and the player’s representatives regarding a possible January move. However, securing Hincapie’s services will not come cheap, with a price tag of no less than £43 million.
Despite their interest in Hincapie, Liverpool is unlikely to make a significant investment in the January transfer window, as they are also targeting Fluminense midfielder Andre. Liverpool’s pursuit of Andre has been ongoing, and the club is currently in pole position to secure his signature. While Liverpool faces competition from other top clubs, they have already submitted a substantial offer.
Fluminense was reluctant to part with Andre during the summer transfer window, but Liverpool’s persistence suggests that negotiations will intensify soon. This ongoing pursuit of Andre may delay Liverpool’s approach for Hincapie until the summer of 2024, as his hefty price tag is currently considered too high for the club.
Liverpool is also exploring alternative options in the center-back position as they continue to strengthen their squad.
