Mark your calendars for an exhilarating evening of football action as the UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game takes center stage on Friday, April 14, at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Starting at 6:30 p.m., fans will witness the culmination of the Roadrunners’ strenuous spring season, comprising 15 intensive workout sessions that commenced on March 6. With free admission and doors opening to the public at 5:30 p.m., this official Fiesta event promises a thrilling experience for all attendees. As the Roadrunners embark on their 13th season of play and inaugurate their membership in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), the anticipation is palpable, all building up to the team’s first game on September 2 in Houston.

Under the skilled leadership of renowned two-time conference coach of the year, Jeff Traylor, the UTSA Roadrunners have soared to impressive heights in recent years. Their 2021 campaign culminated in an exceptional 11-3 record, earning them their second consecutive Conference USA Championship title and a third successive bowl game appearance. As the team approaches their fourth season with Traylor at the helm, his impressive 30-10 win-loss record is testament to his prowess as a strategist and motivator. Over the last two seasons, the Roadrunners’ impressive accumulation of 23 victories has cemented their spot amongst the top 25 collegiate football teams, ranking them fourth-best in the FBS, surpassed only by powerhouses such as Georgia, Michigan, and Alabama. As the next season unfolds, fans and analysts alike will watch with great anticipation to see if the Roadrunners can maintain their dazzling trajectory under Traylor’s expert guidance.

The upcoming UTSA football season is set to be one for the books, as the Roadrunners gear up for an action-packed schedule, with their home opener taking place on September 9 against Texas State University. In a true test of endurance, UTSA will then continue their nonconference lineup by hosting Army West Point merely six days later, followed by a thrilling match against the University of Tennessee at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville on September 23. After a much-needed idle week, the Roadrunners will mark an exciting milestone as they make their debut in the AAC, facing Temple University at the hallowed grounds of Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on October 7. Back on their home turf, UTSA’s first AAC game at the Alamodome will unfold on October 14 against the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Then, it’s back on the road as the team heads to Boca Raton for a showdown with Florida Atlantic University the following Saturday. The exhilarating energy continues as Rice University visits San Antonio on November 11, culminating in a face-off against the University of South Florida on November 17 for the regular season home finale. Amidst this thrilling lineup, UTSA’s road game against defending conference champion Tulane University holds a distinctive place, in the mix for The American’s Black Friday selection scenarios. The suspense thickens as two games will be chosen by October 9 to be moved from Saturday, November 25, to Black Friday (November 24) — potentially including UTSA-Tulane. With the American Athletic Conference Football Championship set for December 2, and aired either on ABC or ESPN, excitement is reaching fever pitch as our beloved Roadrunners take on these exhilarating challenges.

The anticipation is building for the 2023 UTSA football season, as fans eagerly await the announcement of kickoff times and television designations for the first three weeks of play. By June 1, the season-long weeknight games will be finalized, allowing the excitement to ramp up even further. For the remainder of the schedule, the customary 12-day and six-day selection processes will be utilized, ensuring that fans have ample time to prepare and plan for each exhilarating game.
