Indian Men’s Hockey Team Falls Short in FIH Hockey5s World Cup Quarter-Finals Against Netherlands

In a high-stakes Quarter-Final clash at the FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 in Muscat, Oman, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team faced a formidable Netherlands side and succumbed to a 4-7 defeat on Tuesday.

Mohammed Raheel emerged as a standout performer for India, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the 1st, 7th, and 25th minutes. Mandeep Mor also contributed to India’s tally with a goal in the 11th minute. However, the Netherlands proved to be a resilient opponent, with Sander de Wijn and Alexander Schop both scoring a brace, while Lucas Middendorp, Jamie van Aart, and Pepijn Reyenga added one goal each for the Dutch side.

The match began promisingly for India as Mohammed Raheel showcased his skills with a remarkable field goal in the very first minute. However, the Netherlands responded swiftly, with Sander de Wijn leveling the score in the 4th minute. Undeterred, Raheel once again found the net in the 7th minute, only for the Netherlands to equalize with Alexander Schop’s goal in the 10th minute.

Mandeep Mor’s goal in the 11th minute gave India a renewed lead, but the Netherlands countered with goals from Lucas Middendorp and Jamie van Aart in quick succession. Sander de Wijn’s challenge goal in the 15th minute left India trailing as they entered halftime.

The second half saw the Netherlands asserting dominance, extending their lead with goals from Pepijn Reyenga in the 20th minute and Alexander Schop in the 26th minute. Despite Raheel’s valiant effort with his hat-trick goal in the 25th minute, India couldn’t bridge the gap, ultimately falling short in a hard-fought encounter.

The defeat marks the end of India’s campaign in the FIH Hockey5s World Cup, while the Netherlands advances to the next stage.
