The Indian Hockey Teams Receive Heroic Welcome After Asian Games Triumph

The Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams have returned home to India to a hero’s welcome after their spectacular performances at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. The Indian Men’s Hockey Team clinched the Gold Medal, while the Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured the Bronze Medal, bringing glory to the nation.
Hockey enthusiasts gathered at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi late Monday night, welcoming their heroes with thunderous applause. Hockey India officials showered the teams with sweets, garlands, and tokens of appreciation, creating an emotional and joyous atmosphere.
The fans displayed their unwavering support for the teams by playing music and dancing, while family members of the players were also present to celebrate the occasion. The players, in turn, were elated by the warm reception and the resurgence of hockey’s popularity in the country.
Captain of the Indian Men’s Hockey Team, Harmanpreet Singh, expressed his gratitude, saying, “This journey has been amazing. We went to Hangzhou with the mindset of being Asia’s best team, and we wanted to play accordingly. We kept improving match-by-match, which built our confidence, and we came back with the result we desired.”
India’s Men’s Hockey Team ended a nine-year wait for the Asian Games Gold Medal in Hangzhou, securing their place in the 2024 Tokyo Olympics. This victory marked India’s fourth Gold Medal in Men’s Field Hockey at the Asian Games, having previously triumphed in 1966, 1998, and 2014.
Harmanpreet Singh further mentioned, “Seeing the gathering of fans here further gives us the motivation to now focus on the preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics. We have time, and we will work on the areas where we need to improve upon, and we will do our best to convert the Olympic Bronze to Gold.”
The Indian Men’s Hockey Team displayed remarkable dominance throughout the tournament, remaining unbeaten and culminating their journey with a resounding 5-1 victory over Japan in the Final.
Simultaneously, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured a Bronze medal, marking their 7th medal in the Asian Continental tournament. Delighted by the enthusiastic reception, the women’s team expressed their gratitude and vowed to continue striving for excellence in the upcoming year.
