The Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team Dominates Canada 12-0 in FIH Junior World Cup Opener
In a spectacular display of skill and dominance, the Indian junior women’s hockey team kickstarted their campaign in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023 with a resounding 12-0 victory over Canada. The match, which took place on Wednesday, showcased India’s prowess on the field.
India wasted no time and adopted an aggressive strategy right from the beginning, putting tremendous pressure on the Canadian team. This relentless approach paid off as Annu scored two early goals in the 4th and 6th minutes, both from penalty corners. Although India took a comfortable two-goal lead, they continued to press forward, creating multiple opportunities. However, they couldn’t capitalize on them, and the first quarter ended with India leading 2-0.
The momentum gained in the first quarter carried into the second, with India maintaining their dominance. They controlled possession and consistently entered the Canadian circle, leading to goals by Dipi Monika Toppo (21′) and Mumtaz Khan (26′). Despite Canada earning a penalty corner, they failed to convert it. As the second quarter concluded, India maintained a commanding 4-0 lead.
India’s hunger for goals persisted into the third quarter, with Deepika Soreng (34′) converting a penalty corner and Annu (39′) completing her hat-trick. Mumtaz Khan (41′) also scored her second goal of the match. Neelam (45′) added another goal from a penalty corner, extending India’s lead to 8-0 by the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter witnessed an unstoppable Indian team as Deepika Soreng (50′, 54′) and Mumtaz Khan (54′, 60′) completed their hat-tricks, securing India’s comprehensive 12-0 victory.
