The picturesque Panchayat Taryara in Barnoti, Kathua played host to a vibrant display of athleticism and sportsmanship as hundreds of young and passionate sports enthusiasts gathered to participate in Volleyball and Kabaddi competitions. As part of the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s Rural Sports initiative, these events were meticulously organized by the combined efforts of DDC, BDC, PRI, and the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K. This unique convergence of rural talent and modern sporting infrastructure aimed to not only encourage and promote sports activities at the grassroots level but to also empower the local youth to become agents of positive change. The palpable energy in the air truly reflected the power of sports to unite people, transcending cultural and geographical barriers, ultimately painting a bright vision for the future of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was truly a remarkable sight as Director of Youth Services and Sports (YS&S) Jammu and Kashmir, Subash Chibber, graced the gathering as the chief guest, showering praise on the co-organisers for their commendable efforts in nurturing and showcasing the sports talent of young athletes. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm, reflecting the passion and dedication of these gifted youngsters. Chibber couldn’t help but express how heartwarming it was to witness this new generation of adept individuals channeling their energies in such a constructive and positive manner. The event served as a testament to the bright future that lies ahead for the realm of sports in Jammu and Kashmir – a future that is fostered by the unmatched vigor and talent of its youth.
The vital role of sports in eradicating bad behaviour in youth and promoting discipline and responsibility cannot be overstated. In Jammu and Kashmir, the current dispensation under the leadership of Lt. Governor has been committed to engaging youth in sports activities, and this effort has resulted in a visible shift in their attitude towards games and sports. This was emphasized by the Director of Youth Services & Sports (YS&S), who highlighted the transformative power of sports in fostering positive change among young people. On this occasion, Deputy Director YSS Jatinder Mishra, DYSSO Kathua Sunil Kumar, and other senior officials of the Department, as well as district-level field staff from the Department of Youth Services and Sports, were present to show their support for the initiative.
