“Not going to happen” Chael Sonnen Drops His Concern On Robert Whittaker vs Paulo Costa At UFC 298

Chael Sonnen is still concerned about Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa at UFC 298.

UFC 298 has Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa in a co-main event. Fans are equally excited for the co-main event, just as they are for the main event, where featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and undefeated challenger Ilia Topuria are going to fight, but Chael Sonnen is still skeptical of the co-main event, as according to the former UFC fighter’s observation, both fighters are being too lazy to promote their fight despite being in the co-main event. UFC 298 has just 1 week left, and so far there has been no official announcement from the UFC about the fight, so it is still on, but Chael Sonnen thinks otherwise.

Backing his statements on the UFC 298 co-main event, he went back to his past statements when fans were waiting for the UFC 187 main event between Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson, but that fight didn’t happen as Jon Jones got arrested for a hit-and-run case and the fight was called off. Chael Sonnen, during 2015, when this fight was scheduled, blatantly said that the Jon Jones fight wouldn’t be happening, and his words came true. Chael Sonnen this time as well, getting the same vibes as he had for the Jon Jones fight, and on his recent video, he said this about the upcoming fight between Whittaker and Costa.

“I was asked what I thought about Jon Jones and ‘Rumble’ Johnson,” Sonnen recalled. “And I simply responded, ‘That fight will not happen.’ That was it, and a couple of weeks later, the fight blows up and it doesn’t happen. I didn’t have any inside scoop, I just never felt that that fight was going to happen.

Talking about the lack of promotion of the fights by both fighters, he said this:

I will make an observation, and that observation is that Paulo Costa and Robert Whittaker are not behaving, and are not actively doing what other guys put in the same position that are three weeks, closing in on a fight that’s televised and monetized on pay-per-view. They are not doing what two opponents generally would do, that are going to plan to face each other.”
