UFC 300: Charles Oliveira Vs Arman Tsarukyan For No. 1 Lightweight Contender

Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan, booked for UFC 300, would get the title shot.

UFC CEO Dana White gave an amazing fight update on his Instagram account, naming the former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira and rising Armenian striker Arman Tsarukyan, who in his last fight fought one of the rising lightweight contenders, Beneil Dariush. He knocked out Beneil in the very first round of the fight at UFC 289; this was Beneil Dariush’s second consecutive defeat. Both fighters who are scheduled to fight at UFC 300 have defeated Beneil Dariush, booking these two amazing fighters against each other to become the number one contender in the lightweight division.

The champion of the lightweight bout at UFC 300 will get the title shot and fight against the reigning lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, who recently at UFC 294 defeated featherweight kingpin Alexander Volkanovski to become the number one pound-for-pound fighter. Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev earlier had a title fight at UFC 280, where Islam Makhachev defeated Charles to become the champion. After that victory, a rematch was scheduled between these two fighters at UFC 296, but unfortunately Charles pulled himself from the fight owing to an eye injury.

Arman Tsarukyan and Islam Makhachev had a fight back in 2019 where Islam claimed a decision victory over the debutant. Since that year, Arman and Islam have both come a long way, with the latter becoming the lightweight champion and the former now standing at (8-2) in the UFC. The first fight between these two was a close one, and if Arman pulls a victory out of UFC 300, then it would be interesting to see how good he is now compared to his first fight with Islam.
