“I’m ready for that” Charles Oliveira Is Ready For A Rematch Against Islam Makhachev

UFC reigning lightweight champ and number 1 pound-for-pound king Islam Makhachev defended his title for a record 4th time in the UFC while fighting against Renato Moicano, who accepted to fight the champ on 24-hour short notice. With his 4th title defense, Islam Makhachev cemented himself as one of the best lightweights in the world, and he has now surpassed his friend and former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 3-title defense record. It looks like there are no potential match-ups for the champ in the 155lbs category, though Arman Tsarukyan is a fighter that everybody would love to see against the champ. A former lightweight champ is eyeing a rematch for the gold.

Former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira, who was in attendance at UFC 311, praised Islam Makhachev after the latter’s dominant victory and expressed his desire to get a rematch against the champ.

“It was a great fight, he’s the champion. He did what he had to do but I’m next and he knows that. The lightweight champion is called Charles Oliveira, I’m ready for that.”

Charles Oliveira said

Charles Oliveira was defeated by Islam at UFC 280 to become the lightweight champ, and then UFC gave Charles Oliveira another chance to claim the title, but weeks before the bout, the Brazilian pulled out from the fight due to a nasty eye cut. Oliveira won his last fight against former title challenger Michael Chandler via unanimous decision, and most probably, he will have to fight one more time to get a shot at the title.

Meanwhile, UFC booked an exciting fight between two lightweight greats, Dan Hooker and Justin Gaethje, for UFC 313, which is scheduled to happen in March 2025. The winner between these two can get a fight against Arman Tsarukyan or Charles Oliveira.
