UFC reigning middleweight champ Dricus du Plessis landed in UFC in 2020 and fought against Markus Perez, whom he beat via first-round knock-out; the reigning champ boasts a record of (22-2) in his professional MMA career before UFC 312 and will be defending his title next in February 2025. The South African is a riddle that no one in the UFC has a solution to yet, as since his debut in the UFC, he has been undefeated in the organization, and despite being an underdog in various fights, he came out strong and defeated some of the top names in the middleweight divisions to become the UFC middleweight champ. The “Stillknocks” have two losses on their record, which came outside the UFC while fighting in other promotions.
Garreth McLellan vs Dricus du Plessis
The South African’s first professional defeat came against Garreth McLellan in EFC 33 while fighting against Garreth McLellan for the middleweight title on August 30, 2014. Dricus du Plessis started well on the feet and put pressure on his opponent, but it was in the 3rd round when he got caught on the ground by Garreth McLellan, and after trapping Stillknocks’ in a guillotine choke, he made him tap, giving the South-African his first professional loss in MMA.
Dricus du Plessis vs Roberto Soldic
“Stillknocks” suffered his second professional loss while defending his KSW welterweight title on October 6, 2018, at KSW 45. Croatian mixed martial artist Roberto Soldic had a superior striking background, which worked for him against the unorthodox South African. He was dropped in the third round of the fight, and a couple of punches knocked him out.
The South African will defend his UFC middleweight title at UFC 312 against his old rival Sean Strickland, from whom he snatched the gold via razor-sharp split decision in 2024.
