Sean Strickland UFC’s middleweight champion will be seen in the cage again, defending his title against Dricus Du Plessis, whom he replaced as opponent against Israel Adesanya for the title fight, and winning it in a staggering way at UFC 293. The South African MMA star had post-fight words with Israel Adesanya at UFC 290 when he knocked out Robert Whittaker in the second round. Israel and him were scheduled to fight, but due to an apparent injury, he had to opt out, and Sean got the opportunity, which he took with both hands to give a shocker to the MMA world.
UFC has arranged another opportunity for Dricus Du Plessis to claim the middleweight title, this time from the newly crowned champion Sean Strickland. Sean Strickland said in a recent video that the South African is a much more worthy opponent to face than Khamzat Chimaev, who won his fight against Kumaru Usman at UFC 294 by a unanimous decision. Khamzat Chimaev is still unbeaten with a perfect 12-0 record, and people expected that he would be the best one to get the title shot against Sean Strickland, but the UFC decided otherwise.
I think Dricus is like so awkward he’s good… He’s so awkward he’s good. It’s gonna be a f***ing war. He’ll be a tougher fight than Chimaev… Chimaev, he doesn’t f***ing deserve it… The only reason why Chimaev gets that shot is because he sells a lot of tickets.”

Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis are locked in for UFC 297, which is going to happen at Scotiabank Arena on January 21st. Sean would be looking to defend his title for the first time, while Dricus is looking to claim his first. So far, it looks like there hasn’t been any bad blood between these two fighters, and the fight could go either way; time will only tell.
