“He’s Faster,” Ex-UFC Champ Thinks This Fighter Can Dethrone Merab Dvalishvili

UFC reigning Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili shut down his critics and doubters after his UFC 311 victory over Umar Nurmagomedov, who was thought to be the most challenging test for “The Machine.” With his unending cardio and constant pressure, the reigning champ kept Umar on his heels most of the time and gave the fans the most exciting fight of the event. After finishing Umar Nurmagomedov, Merab Dvalishvili has cleaned the UFC Bantamweight division; the champ has dominant victories over names like Jose Aldo, Henry Cejudo, Petr Yan, Sean O’Malley, and the latest addition to that is Umar, who got his first professional loss at UFC 311.

Now, the question is who can defeat Merab Dvalishvili, though there are still some names in the Bantamweight division whom “The Machine” still faces. The former Bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw thinks that the fighter who can challenge the throne is his former rival, Cody Garbrandt; despite winning twice against “No Love,” he still feels his former rival has the skills to beat Merab. Talking on the JAXXON Podcast, Dillashaw said.

“He’s so f**king fast. He’s like a cat on his feet. He’s hard to take down, and as soon as he gets his confidence back, he hits like a truck, he’s faster than – I think he could do really good if he can get a run going, believing in himself, he could be a threat.”

TJ Dillashaw said

“Lieutenant Dan” explained the reason behind picking Cody Garbrandt as a potential threat to Merab Dvalishvili.

You’ve got to find someone who’s got the wrestling. Why Umar is such a threat is because Umar can wrestle. To beat Merab, you’ve got to wrestle because you know he’s going to shoot, he’s going to shoot, he’s going to shoot, and then you got to be able to outstrike him. He’s got good striking skills, but he’s not like a striker. So, that’s why I say someone like Garbrandt.”
