Francis Ngannou Called A Fight With Jon Jones “A fantastic fight,” Explaining Why The Hopes Are Faded Now

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou always had the ambitions to become the best in the heavyweight division, and the Predator made his name in the MMA circuit, though some of his dreams remained unfulfilled, one of which was to fight Jon Jones during his UFC career. The two never crossed paths. Even though Francis Ngannou wanted to fight Jon Jones in the heavyweight division, the fight never came to fruition, and when the fight got offered, Francis Ngannou decided to part ways with the UFC.

In his recent appearance at Sportsbook Review, The Predator opened up about his desire to fight Jon Jones and the obstacles making it impossible. The former heavyweight champ named UFC CEO Dana White the biggest obstacle in this dream match-up.

I have tried to fight Jon Jones for four years since I fought Jairzinho Rozenstruik [at UFC 249] back in 2020. I’ve been trying to fight Jon Jones and then they were holding it out like a trap until the moment that I was about to leave and then they said, ‘OK, here’s the Jon Jones fight.’ But it was bait. I felt they were very tricky.”

“If you can get past Dana White, it could happen, [but] that’s a massive obstacle,”

Francis Ngannou said

Ngannou knew that the fight between him and Jon Jones would be massive, but now that the fighter has ended his UFC run to join PFL, a cross-over will not happen. Praising “Bones” fighting skills, he labeled him the best light heavyweight in the world.

“Yes, Jon Jones would be a great fight, a fantastic fight,” I have always hoped for that fight (but) my hope and my expectation for that fight has faded over time. …

“I have a lot of fights to get a measurement of his light heavyweight career and I have way less to look at with him as a heavyweight. I think he’s by far the best light heavyweight. His cage time as a light heavyweight was over a decade. At heavyweight he has two fights. He has barely done three rounds.”

Ngannou said. “
