“I was trying” Ian Garry Opens Up On The 5th Round Submission Attempt On Shavkat Rakhmonov At UFC 310

The co-main event of the UFC 310 had a lot of hype behind it, and to some extent, the fight delivered to fans’ expectations. The fight went to 5 rounds, with Shavkat Rakhmonov getting his hands raised at the end, with judges scoring the fight 48-47 in his favor. Though Shavkat Rakhmonov won the fight, it was Ian Garry’s performance that impressed MMA fans; the Irish fighter lost his “0” at UFC 310 but made it hard for the “Nomad” to get a victory, his take-down defense and ground game prowess worked well against the undefeated Kazakh fighter.

In the 5th round of the fight, Ian Garry got the back of Shavkat and came close to finishing the fight via submission, but it was Shavkat’s resilience and spirit made him get out of the almost locked-in rear naked choke. Now, Ian Garry sharing his opinion on the submission attempt said this.

“Charles [Oliveira] and I went over a discussion about how instead of going palm to palm and pulling and cranking my elbow, if I grab my wrist or my gloves — which is allowed, to grab my own — I can really torque and then pull. So I tried this.”

Being honest, Ian Garry accepted that he tried really hard to crank the face of Rakhmonov or break his teeth through pressure, but the Kazakh fighter’s toughness is on another level, as he didn’t tap, in fact, he managed to get out of it.

“Obviously, I was across the chin, not under the chin. That’s essentially how tough someone is, if I can’t break their face. I have no problem with shattering all of Shavkat’s teeth in that fight, if I can. And trust me, I was trying.”
