Since UFC 317, where UFC crowned a new lightweight champion in the name of Ilia Topuria, the lightweight division is on fire, as top contenders are proposing their names to fight for the title. However, Topuria and Paddy Pimblett had a heated faceoff in the octagon, and Ilia accepted to fight him next. Dana White, however, refused to give a direct title shot to the British MMA fighter. Arman Tsarukyan, who missed his chance to fight for the title due to an alleged back injury the day before his fight with Islam Makhachev, said that he has a perfect plan to destroy Ilia Topuria’s hype.
‘Ahalkalakets’ on Daniel Cormier’s YouTube channel he said that he will play an all-round game to defeat the new lightweight champ.
“I’m a well-rounded fighter, and I’m not going to just try to wrestle him. I’m going to strike him. I’m going to kick him. I’m going to upkick him… show him wrestling, punch him, punch him wrestling… clinch work.”
Arman Tsarukyan said
According to Arman Tsarukyan, Ilia’s ground game is not as impressive as he struggled against Bryce Mitchell on the ground during their featherweight bout, and the Armenian fighter is ready to exploit the weakness of the new champion if they fight in the coming year. The No. 1 lightweight contender said that Charles Oliveira is a more brutal fight for him than Ilia, as against the former, the fighter needs to be ready to adjust on the ground due to his elite jiu-jitsu skills.
“For me, it’s easier to fight Topuria than Oliveira,. You can take [Topuria] down a thousand times, because he’s not going to try to choke you or something.”
He declared confidently
It will be exciting to see who Ilia Topuria will face next, as many options are available to the UFC, and who will get the chance to challenge for the title.
