RFC Bantamweight champion Kai Asakura will make his UFC debut on December 7th at the last PPV event of 2024. In his first fight, he will fight for the title, and that’s what makes the debut of the Japanese fighter more exciting. Kai Asakura will be fighting in the flyweight division after a long time, and ahead of his UFC debut, the RFC champ revealed a mind-boggling detail about his first street fight or the event that inspired him to choose MMA as a career. In the UFC 310 promotional video, the debutant said that his first step towards MMA was a street fight in which he fought his elder brother Mikuru Asakura.

“The story of how I got into MMA is quite crazy. My older brother was fighting in the street every day. He beat everyone and there was no one left to fight. So one day, my older brother called me into the street in the middle of the night. Suddenly he gave me some boxing gloves to wear. He was really trying to kill me with each strike. I was able to dodge everything. It was the first time I ever had a real fight. That’s when I realized I had serious potential as a fighter.”

The debutant is confident about getting the work done in his first fight and shocks fans on his debut against the reigning champion Alexandre Pantoja, who has successfully defended his title against the best contenders. According to Kai Asakura, he has found loopholes in Pantoja’s style and will utilize that to his advantage.

“I’m a little bit different than the other fighters in the flyweight division. I have the ability to capitalize on one of [Pantoja’s] mistakes and put him to sleep. So that’s what I’m aiming for. That’s what makes my challenge for this type of fight different than anybody else.”
