Michael Chandler’s Bold Claims Against Charles Oliveira After UFC 309 Loss, Can Beat Him “Nine times out of 10”

UFC lightweight fighter Michael Chandler had a rough night in the Octagon at UFC 309, where former lightweight champ Charles Oliveira defeated him via unanimous decision. This was the second time when the Brazilian won a fight against the “Iron” in the UFC; in the previous match, after getting in trouble in the first round, Oliveira made an outstanding comeback in the 2nd round and knocked out Chandler to become UFC lightweight champ though in the rematch Michael Chandler showed the spirit to stand and fight against former champ for 5 rounds he couldn’t do enough to beat the skillset of the Brazilian.

Despite the loss record against Oliveira, the “Iron” still believes he can beat Charles Oliveira “Nine times out of 10”. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the former Bellator lightweight champ said this.

“I would give myself a two out of ten. I cannot overstate how horrible of a performance this was or set of circumstances it was after that first round, compared to what my vision was for what I am capable of. I believe I beat Charles Oliveira nine times out of 10. Obviously, I’ve lost to him twice now. Two out of two. I have a 100 percent loss rate to Charles Oliveira. So, I understand why people might tsk at that, roll their eyes at that. But I just am so unhappy with the performance. I am so excited to get healthy and give the fans and the supporters the performance they deserve.”

He also addressed the “Dirty Fighter” accusations during the interview and defended himself against the claims, saying that the shots he landed during the fight were legal as they were behind the ears, not on the back of the head. Mentioning the ref who was there for the fight and never stopped him from throwing those shots supports what he did was absolutely legal.

A referee who was within two feet away never said one thing about it. Then you’ve got commentators who were 35 feet away saying it’s the back of the head and you’ve got other people saying it was back of the head. If a referee was saying, ‘Watch the back of the head,’ or, ‘That is the back of the head,’ then I’d understand.”
