India’s Sangram Singh Will Make His MMA Debut Against Pakistan’s Ali Raza Nasir
Former WWP Commonwealth heavyweight champion Sangram Singh is all set to make his Mixed Martial Arts debut at 38, becoming the first Indian male wrestler to compete in the world of MMA. Though India has some world-class wrestlers in MMA, and one of them is Ritu Phogat, who represents India in Asia’s largest MMA organization, ONE Championship, a professional Indian male wrestler is yet to be seen in the sport, and Sangram Singh will be the pioneer of the transition from male wrestling to MMA. In his debut fight, he will face Pakistan’s Ali Raza Nasir on September 21st at the Gama International Fighting Championship at Heroes sq. 1 in Tbilisi, Georgia.
Sangram Singh earlier appeared in India’s reality TV show Bigg Boss. From there, he got the attention of the Indian audience and has maintained his presence on the internet ever since. That’s what he is trying to do with his MMA debut: inspire more young Indian athletes to pursue a sport like MMA as a career.
“I envision a future where Indian athletes stand proudly on international stages and can develop their career in Mixed Martial Arts. My own journey from wrestling to MMA isn’t just for me; I hope to build the sport in India and also pave inroads for our young Indian fighters to travel places and participate. I hope to inspire them to believe that with commitment and effort, they too can achieve greatness globally.”
Sangram Singh said
There are some Indian MMA fighters who have made it to the International stage. In fact, India’s MMA fighter Puja Tomar became the first Indian MMA fighter to win in the Octagon in her debut bout, and there are more in line to make it to the UFC. With Sangram Singh making his MMA debut, the sport will definitely reach more Indians.
