Sean Strickland Revisits His Nasty Injury At UFC 297, Which Made Him Weak Against Dricus du Plessis

Sean Strickland is going to fight for the middleweight title at UFC 312 in a rematch against Dricus du Plessis. In the previous outing, Sean Strickland failed to defend his middleweight title against the South African, who edged a razor-sharp decision against him. Prior to their rematch, “Tarzan” opened up about a nasty injury that he sustained during his fight with “Stillknocks” that made him go blind. Sean Strickland suffered a nasty head butt in the 4th round of the bout that caused a cut over his left eye, and the dropping blood from the cut made it difficult to see the punches.

Sean Strickland while giving an interview to ESPN MMA,

‘I remember there’s a moment I wiped my blood out of my eye, and I’m like I can’t see…so it’s like the moment that left eye goes, you’re just like everything is just different…I can’t see a punch. I didn’t take damage until the eye got cut and I was like man I can’t see punches.”

The former middleweight title holder will be cornered by light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira at UFC 312, and it is an absolute motivation to have such a friend on your side during the fight. When it was asked to the “Tarzan” about his feelings, he revealed his happiness about that and offered any help “Poatan” needed for his upcoming bout against Magomed Ankalaev, whom the champ will fight at UFC 313.

He [Pereira] said he’s down. He’s a good dude, man. He’s such a good f*cking dude. He has a tough fight coming up against (Magomed) Ankalaev and if he needs me for that, I’ll be out to help with him. So it kind of goes mutual.”
