Carlos Prates during his fight

A welterweight bout between Ian Garry and the rising welterweight contender Carlos Prates has been scheduled for the UFC’s return to Kansas City. The “Fighting Nerds” team member has established himself as a knockout artist in 170lbs; though he is yet to get ranked in the top 10, he has been a fighter who caught the attention of the MMA fans with his highlight reel knockouts. Carlos Prates was earlier scheduled to fight Geoff Neal at UFC 314, but the latter pulled out from the fight due to an injury and the Irish welterweight accepted the short notice fight once again.

Ian Garry accepted a short-notice fight against the undefeated welterweight, Shavkat Rakhmonov, at UFC 310 and gave him the hardest fight of his career so far. Though he lost the bout via unanimous decision, he showed the world that a perfect game plan can work against opponents like Shavkat Rakhmonov as well.

After the official announcement of the fight from the UFC, Ian Garry gave his reaction to his main event bout scheduled for April 26, 2025.

Right, it’s official, you’ve got a new main event, Kansas City, Missouri, me versus Carlos Prates, April 26, I’m excited. The UFC go, ‘Ah, we need someone, who do we need? Who do we call?’ You call me. Why? Because I’m a real fighter who wants to fight the best in the world. I’m going to show everybody how good I am. Carlos Prates is awesome, but this my world. I love to fight. There’s nothing I love more in this world than fighting,”

Ian Garry said

It will be an exciting main event as the Brazilian is a force that looks unstoppable, whereas Ian Garry’s game plans have paid dividends against good fighters in the division so far. Whose hand will get raised after the fight remains to be seen.
