Ilia Topuria wants to fight Conor McGregor next

Ilia Topuria is scheduled to fight UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski on February 17th at UFC 298. The number one featherweight contender is still undefeated in his professional career, and before his title fight, he calls out the former two-division champion, Conor McGregor. UFC is desperately trying to lock a fight between him and Michael Chandler; in fact, the former champion declared on social media a few months ago that he wants to fight Chandler at middleweight, which is two divisions higher in the upper weight class than Conor’s usual weight class.

The fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler has been delayed until the fall of this year, while Ilia Topuria, who is confident of winning the featherweight title fight this February, is ready to fight him after winning his fight with Alexander Volkanovski. Recently, during Super Bowl week, Ilia Topuria revealed his plans to fight “The Notorious” while talking to FanSided MMA.

“I’m looking for Conor McGregor. If he doesn’t lose his upcoming fight, we can do it in Spain if he feels ready for this level of competition. If not, I don’t know, I’m gonna sit down with the UFC and we’ll have a conversation and they’re gonna tell me who’s the next guy… I don’t care [what weight I fight McGregor at]. We can fight without a weight limit.”

UFC CEO Dana White has given a hint in his recent podcast on “The Pat McAfee Show” about the potential fight between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler, despite Conor’s announcement on social media that the fight will happen in June 2023. Dana White said that the UFC is going to get the fight done in the fall of this year.
