“I’m just getting started!” Gregory Rodrigues Issues First Statement After UFC Loss Against Cannonier

Gregory Rodrigues and Jared Cannonier during their fight

The main event of the UFC Vegas 102 was a banger and one of the most spectacular comebacks in the UFC. Middleweight fighters Jared Cannonier and Gregory Rodrigues both measured distance at the start of the fight. The Brazilian, being the favorite to win the bout, started building pressure on the 40-year-old Cannonier and dropped him twice in the very first round and almost got to the verge of finishing the fight in the very first round. Still, Jared Cannonier survived, though not fully recovered. The second round was the same story, with Rodrigues being the dominant one. Still, at the end of the 3rd round, Cannonier hit a nasty elbow to the face of the Brazilian, which hurt him so badly.

In the 4th round, “The Killa Gorilla” went berserk to knock out 33-year-old Rodrigues to register his first victory of 2025. Now, the Brazilian has come out and told the MMA fans about what went wrong with him during the fight and promised that he will come back stronger.

“I had serious issues on my recovery after weight cut—my body just wasn’t responding. I keep wondering how things would’ve played out if I had been at 100%…But no sad stories here—Robocop never dies! Time to recharge, reset the system, and upgrade, ‘cause I’m just getting started!”

Gregory Rodrigues, after three straight victories, faced defeat, whereas Jared Cannonier, after a bad 2024, has his first win in his name after two losses, and that is what matters to him a lot.

It feels great, man. 2024 was losses – not just in the octagon, but loss in my personal life, as well. 2024, I’m so happy to put that behind me. I’m so happy 2025 is getting off on a good note, on a good foot. Camp was great. I learned a lot throughout camp. The whole fight week process was awesome.”
