Ilia Topuria Is Aiming A 3rd Title After UFC 317

Former UFC featherweight champ after vacating his featherweight belt moved up to chase 2nd title in the UFC. The actual aim was to fight Islam Makhachev and defeat him to win the lightweight title but the destiny has its own way as Islam moved up vacating his 155lbs belt to fight for the Welterweight gold. The move disappointed the Spaniard as he went hard on Islam Makhachev calling him a coward for moving up nonetheless, the UFC decided to gave Ilia a shot to the vacated lightweight title and the way to get his hands on the title is to defeat Charles Oliveira at UFC 317.

Fans can call it confidence or Arrogance, as Ilia Topuria is undermining Charles Oliveira and looking for a first-round finish at UFC 317. The Spaniard has a bigger goal in mind. He is ready to move up to the Welterweight division to fight Islam Makhachev if they both win their second belt. At the open workout press conference, the former featherweight champ said this when asked about his plans.

“We’ll see how [Makhachev] does in the welterweight division. If he wins the title, I win the title in the lightweight division, maybe I move up or he comes down to the lightweight division and we have the fight that everybody wants to see… If Islam becomes the welterweight world champion, for sure I’m going to push for that shot also and I will move to the welterweight division.”

Ilia is the favorite to win the fight at UFC 317, but no one can doubt Charles Oliveira’s abilities to prove people wrong. He has done it in the past, but whether he could do it against such a knockout artist whose ground game can’t be ignored is what fans will see at UFC 317.
