Former UFC Lightweight champ Islam Makhachev is eyeing to dominate the 170lbs division by fighting the reigning welterweight champ Jack Della Maddalena next, and a new update is coming from the former two-division champ Henry Cejudo that the two are scheduled to face each other in October 2025 the former champ revealed it on his pound for pound podcast show alongside Kamaru Usman. Fight fans can see a Welterweight title bout on October 20th if the rumors are true. Though the venue is yet to be decided, the update has left the fans excited about the match-up.
Islam Makhachev after defending his title for the 4th consecutive time defeated Renato Moicano at UFC 311 and moved up to chase his dream of becoming a two division champ. The interesting thing was if at UFC 315, Belal Muhammad defended his title then fans would have seen a super fight between Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev but as the Australian was crowned as the new champion of the 170lbs, Islam moved up to fight him and Ilia Topuria also came up in the lightweight division and is scheduled to fight for the vacant lightweight belt at UFC 317 against former champ Charles Oliveira.
A super fight between Islam and Ilia is still possible, as UFC Bantamweight fighter and Khabib’s cousin Umar Nurmagomedov revealed that the UFC plans to have a super fight between these two next year if both win their second belts in 2025.
“They want to make Topuria the champ at 155 (pounds). They believe he can really sell fights. Islam doesn’t want to give up his belt — he wants to fight at 155 too,” Nurmagomedov added. “Islam can take the 170 title, then return to 155 and hold both belts.”
