“He can’t represent nothing,” Merab Dvalishvili Questioned Umar’s Nationality Pre UFC 311

The first PPV card of 2025 is filled with exciting fights. The main card featured three exciting bouts in different weight divisions, where the main event is a lightweight title bout between the reigning lightweight champ Islam Makhachev and challenger Arman Tsarukyan. The co-main event is the one that makes this card more intense, as the two fighters don’t share a good relationship with each other. Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili and the undefeated fighter Umar Nurmagomedov are going to clash in the co-main event of the UFC 311. There has been a lot of back and forth between these two since the Georgian fighter claimed the title at UFC 306 by defeating Sean O’Malley.

After a heated backstage moment in December 2024 during the UFC presser, the two are now taking it to each other’s nationality. The challenger claimed he is more Georgian than Merab Dvalishvili, and the latter hit back by asking the former’s nationality. Speaking at the Full Send podcast, “The Machine,” the challenger questioned his nationality.

“He’s going to get slapped for that… Bro, he represents nothing. He can’t represent Dagestan. He’s not Russian. He’s not Georgian. He can’t represent nothing. He’s not Russian. He’s from Dagestan, but he represents Russia. What kind of – and then he’s saying he’s Georgian now. Good luck.”

Despite being the champ, Merab Dvalishvili is going to enter the Octagon as an underdog, and Umar Nurmagomedov is a favorite to win the bout. It will be exciting to see whether the newly crowned Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili defends his title against one of the toughest opponents in the Bantamweight division or Umar Nurmagomedov adds one more title to the Nurmagomedov’s legacy by defeating the reigning champ in the co-main event on 18th January 2024.
