UFC has inducted an exciting Japanese MMA fighter into its roster. The Rizin Fighting Federation Bantamweight champion Kai Asakura is going to make his UFC debut at UFC 310, and what’s more exciting about the Japanese fighter’s UFC debut is that, in his promotional debut, he is going to fight for the UFC flyweight title against the reigning champ Alexandre Pantoja. UFC must have seen how good his MMA game is. That’s why the promotion has given him a lifetime opportunity to make history in combat sports and become a champion in his first fight in the UFC.
The 31-year-old fighter has an absolutely dominant career at The Rizin Fighting Federation, but the journey wasn’t a cakewalk as he and his elder brother Mikuru Asakura have fought all odds from their childhood from rough upbringing to getting in street fights from a tender age to rise in the professional fighting ranks the journey is inspiring. His mother was the first to encourage him to channel his energy into boxing, but his elder brother was the first to introduce him to the world of MMA. Kai Asakura made his professional MMA debut in 2012 and fought for promotions like DEEP and Rings before getting into Rizin Fighting.
He made his debut in the Rizin Fighting Federation in 2017, and in his debut fight at the promotion, he gave a highlight reel knockout to his fans, knocking out Kizaemon Saiga in the 2nd round of the battle. In 2019, he got the shot to the Bantamweight title but couldn’t get the win against his opponent Manel Kape, who knocked him out in the second round. It was in 2020 when he finally won the belt, and since then, he has grabbed it twice, with his latest victory coming against Juan Archuleta.
It will be exciting to see whether he can beat Alexandre Pantoja in his UFC debut or end up like Pantoja’s other opponents.
