Who’s Next In The Line For Alexandre Pantoja After UFC 310 Title Defense?

Alexandre Pantoja after his fight

UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 310 showed that he rule the flyweight division, and no matter who UFC puts him against, he will come out victorious. After defeating all top flyweight contenders, UFC put former RFC Bantamweight champ Kai Asakura against him, but the “Cannibal” dominated the Japanese fighter, ultimately making the challenger sleep in the 2nd round of the main event. This was Pantoja’s 7th straight victory and third title defense; seeing no one has left to challenge him during the post-fight interview, he called out former UFC flyweight champion and now retired Demetrious Johnson for a fight to prove to fans who is the real “GOAT” of the flyweight division.

The showdown with Demetrious Johnson is unlikely to happen as the latter bid farewell to the UFC way back in 2018 and joined ONE Championship in a trade deal. In 2024 at ONE 168, “Mighty Mouse” announced his retirement from MMA. He is still competing in jiu-jitsu competitions and will likely continue that as long as he is willing to, but getting in the cage one more time is something he is not choosing for now.

Alexandre Pantoja spoke about the call-out post-UFC 310 on the Ariel Helwani Show.

“I understand if he doesn’t want to (fight), I have huge respect (for him),” Pantoja began to explain on The Ariel Helwani Show. But I’ve seen him training right now and I don’t know, maybe that (fight) happens. I just need to train with him, maybe training with him, that’s something I want because I’m training with (Henry) Cejudo, I train with Kyoji Horiguchi and Adriano Moraes, I fight with a lot of good fighters. That’s something I have dreamed about, fight with the best fighters in the world, Demetrious Johnson is the best one… He’s so smart and I want to challenge him for that, that’s why I’m fighting, and that’s why I never say no to anybody. Maybe I can text him and we can train together.

There is no available option for the UFC to put against the champ, but a rematch against Brandon Moreno will be exciting, as both fighters went the distance both times they met in the cage. Until the official announcement, the champ can wait.
