Sunrisers Hyderabad appoints Daniel Vettori as new head coach, sacked Brian Lara.

Sunrisers Hyderabad put an end to West Indian star batter Brian Lara’s coaching tenure as the franchise decided to appoint former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori as the head coach. West Indian Brian Lara was the head coach of the Sunrisers for two seasons; he was inducted into the team as head coach during IPL 2022 and served till IPL 2023. During his short tenure, Sunrisers Hyderabad didn’t perform up to the mark and couldn’t even qualify for the playoffs in two seasons; in fact, in the IPL 2023, the team finished 10th in the points table.

Appointing Daniel Vettori as head coach made him the fourth change done by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the position of head coach in the last six seasons. Prior to Brian Lara, former Australian Cricketer Trevor Bayliss coached the “Orange Army” for two seasons, and now Daniel Vettori, after a long time, would be seen again in the IPL as a coach. Vettori earlier coached Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014–2018 before the appointment of Gary Kirsten as the head coach of the RCB in 2019. A former New Zealand spin artist is currently coaching Birmingham Phoenix in “The Hundred”.

Under his coaching, RCB performed decently in the 2015 season, as the team finished third in the table, and in 2016 they finished as runner-ups. Seeing his record as a coach, Sunrisers’ management decided to appoint him. The decision was made public by the SRH on their social media handles, and they also wished good luck to Brian Lara for his future endeavours. The change made by Sunrisers Hyderabad shows their intent to improve the team’s performance so that the 2016 IPL trophy winner can claim the trophy again.

“Thank you for the contribution to the Sunrisers. We wish you all the best for your future endeavours.”
