England’s star batter Ben Stokes recently came out of the ODI retirement after announcing himself out of the ODI format back in 2022. The decision to backflip from the retirement was taken by the cricketer due to the ICC ODI CWC 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India, and Ben Stokes didn’t want to miss the chance to retain the title. England fans and fellow teammates are happy that he is back in the team for the World Cup, but ex-Australia Test captain Tim Paine wasn’t happy with England’s left-handed batter coming back in the team after announcing retirement, as that would cut the chances of another player playing in the team.

England recently announced their ODI squad against New Zealand for the home ODI series, and in that squad, Ben Stokes was included. He is going to bat in the series and avoid bowling as it will worsen his knee injury. After his name was announced in the squad, he was making abuzz around the cricket world, and Tim Paine gave his comments on England’s test captain’s return. Sharing his opinion on Sen Radio, he said

“It was a bit of, ‘Me, me, me’, there isn’t it? It was, ‘I’ll pick and I’ll choose where I want to play and when I want to play’, and, ‘I’ll play in the big tournaments’.”

Talking about what it could mean to other players, he said that because of Stokes, other players who have represented England in the ODIs for the past 12 months would be out of the team. He named Harry Brook, who is not included in the ODI squad against New Zealand.

“The guys who played for 12 months, ‘Sorry, thanks. But can you go and sit on the bench because I want to play now?’,”
