Sweden and Australia had a match for the 3rd place glory in which Sweden defeated Australian Women’s team by 2-0. It was all Sweden dominating match as they had the 56% of the possession, but they also made 17 fouls which is quite high for any team.
Australia also had a fair number of shooting shares, as they had 3 attempts on the target and three corners. From the start, Sweden attacked, which pressured the defense of the Australian Women’s team, and soon, in the 27th minute, Penalty was given by the VAR decision.
The penalty was taken by Fridolina Roflo, who scored the goal at the bottom right corner, which gave Sweden a 1-0 lead, but after that, Australia fought back and had some shots the target but failed to convert them into a goal and till the half time the scoreline was just 1-0 in favor of Sweden.
After the half time, the Australian team came out with more intent to score the goal and level the scoreline but failed to put their chance which they got in the starting minute of the 2nd half. Soon in the 62nd minute, Sweden scored the second goal of the match, which came from the counter-attack as Asllani scored the goal for Sweden after driving through the midfield area and then playing a one-two-one with Blackstenius who gave a pass to Kosovare Asllani who scored the goal which given the 2 goals lead to the Sweden Women’s Football team to gain up a huge advantage over Australian Women’s team.
In the end, the scoreline stayed still, and the match ended in favor of the Sweden team, who won the third-place playoff and it was their fourth time finishing third in the FIFA Women’s World Cup as they did in the past which came in 1991, 2011, and 2019. The women’s team also had kind of the same luck as their men’s team, and most of the team surprised the world with their amazing performance, but in the semi-final and final, they were just not able to crack it to get their hands on the trophy. The Final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be played between Spain and England on August 20th, 2023.
