Luke Shaw will be sidelined for a significant amount of time after picking up a muscle injury, Manchester United have confirmed. The club revealed that Shaw has a muscle problem and that they are still evaluating the severity of his condition. They said that “the England left-back is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks.”
Shaw has been a vital player for boss Erik ten Hag, featuring in 27 games last term and playing in both of United’s first two matches of the new season. His deputy Tyrell Malacia is also injured, and it is unclear if the club will try to bring in another left-back before the transfer deadline.
United started the Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Wolves but then lost 2-0 to Tottenham. The Red Devils take on Nottingham Forest in their next game and then have tough tests against Arsenal and Brighton.
Shaw has been an essential player for boss Erik ten Hag, featuring in 27 matches last season and being in the first eleven for both of United’s first two games of the new season. His understudy Tyrell Malacia is also injured, and it is doubtful if the club will acquire another left-back before the transfer window shuts. United have a few options to replace Shaw, such as Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, or Diogo Dalot, but none of them have the same quality and consistency as the injured defender.
Luke missed 3 matches last season after being sidelined from April 6, 2023, to April 13, 2023, for about 13 days due to an unknown injury. He is 28 years old and has been on the sideline many times in every season he played for Manchester United. Manchester United signed him from Southampton in 2014 for about 37.50 million euros, and since then, they have invested in Shaw even though he was sidelined from the team for around 1 whole season.
