Sunil Narine got the first ever Red Card in Cricket due to his….

Sunil Narine

West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, who is currently playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League T20, has become the first cricketer to get a red card during the game when Trinbago Knight Riders were taking on St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Sunil Narine got the red card due to the slow over rate of the team. This is a new strategy implemented by CPL organizers to curb the slow over rate by penalizing the teams who do so. In this newly implemented system by the CPL, each and every team has to complete the 20 overs in the allotted time of 85 minutes.

If a team failed to abide by the rules made for the slow over rate, then the team would have to dismiss one player selected by the captain from the team and bring six fielders inside the 30 yard circle. Trinbago Knight Riders’ captain Kieron Pollard was not happy with the decision made by the umpires and showed his disappointment after the match by saying some words.

We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalised for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous

Keiron Pollard

Keiron Pollard and Co., despite that chuckle, managed to win the match by 6 wickets. Nicholas Pooran’s innings of 61 runs in just 32 balls powered the Trinbago Knight Riders, and later Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell ensured that they ended the match with 17 overs remaining. The ICC has also taken stringent measures to stop the slow rate delay. As of now, the ICC penalizes the team by deducting some points, as they did last time against Australia and England during the Ashes series, where both teams were penalized by the ICC deducting their WTC points.

In the upcoming matches of the CPL T20, we could see some more red cards if teams don’t play according to the rules.
