Ex-Pak captain mocks Axar Patel for failing to turn the bowl on the Colombo pitch.

India defeated Sri Lanka in their recent match of the Super League 4 to qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup 2023. The match was inarguably bowlers’ dominated as bowlers from both sides made the low-scoring match a thriller. First, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage bowled an impressive spell wiping out India’s top order; he trapped India’s captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill and went on to take five wickets in the match that restricted India to 213 runs, but the Indian team was prepared to fight back, and Indian bowlers counter-attacked by taking quick wickets, with Kuldeep Yadav ending the match with 4 wickets in his pocket, getting him the Player of the Match.

Ex-Pak captain Salman Butt did notice the Indian bowlers and praised Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja for the way they bowled, but he didn’t mince his words in criticizing the Indian all-rounder Axar Patel, who was included in the team replacing Shardul Thakur. During the match, Axar Patel bowled 5 overs and conceded 29 runs without a wicket. He was struggling to turn the ball, and that didn’t go unnoticed. Salman Butt discussed the bowler on his YouTube channel and said

“When you see Axar Patel’s bowling, he is not on par with Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin. No doubt his batting is quite good, but if he didn’t get any turn on this wicket, where will he? There was so much turn on offer that even Charith Asalanka picked up four wickets. However, Axar Patel didn’t get any turn, which is a matter of concern,”

Salman Butt said

He praised the brilliant bowling of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja.

“Kuldeep Yadav gives the ball air. Both Kuldeep and Jadeja have very good releases, which is why there is a lot of rip. Our bowlers push the ball towards the batters instead of giving the ball air and revs. They bowl at a flatter trajectory. Yes, Jadeja also bowls flat, but he gets rip”.
