India’s challenge at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 badminton tournament came to an end as both women’s doubles pairs failed to advance beyond the pre-quarterfinals on Thursday.
The first Indian duo to compete, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, faced a tough match against the seventh-seeded Indonesian pair of Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ranadhanti. Unfortunately, the Indian pair couldn’t match their opponents’ pace and succumbed to an 8-21, 14-21 defeat in just 36 minutes.
All hopes were then pinned on the unseeded Indian pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa as they faced the top-seeded Japanese duo of Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahar. However, the Indian duo faced a formidable challenge, and despite their best efforts, they were defeated with a score of 18-21, 7-21 in 38 minutes.
With these losses, India’s campaign at the Hong Kong Open Super 500 came to a close. While the Indian players showed promise in the earlier rounds, they couldn’t progress further in the tournament. Nevertheless, their participation in the prestigious event provided valuable experience and an opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best badminton players.
