Football fans have taken to social media to discuss an awkward on-pitch encounter involving TNT Sports presenter Laura Woods and Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. The incident occurred following United’s 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday (24 October).
Woods approached Ten Hag for a post-game interview and extended her hand for a handshake. However, the Dutch manager chose to acknowledge former United stars Rio Ferdinand and Paul Scholes, who were also present on the pitch, before eventually embracing Woods. The uncomfortable moment left Woods exclaiming, “How weird was that?” as she realized she had been momentarily ignored.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the situation. Some noted that they had never seen Ten Hag so friendly during an interview and suggested that Woods may have had a positive impact on his demeanor. Others speculated that Ten Hag intentionally left Woods hanging, while some even humorously suggested that Woods might perform the famous “robot” celebration made famous by Peter Crouch while waiting.
Despite the awkward moment, Ten Hag appeared to be in good spirits following United’s crucial Champions League victory, their first of the 2023-24 campaign. While the incident left Woods momentarily embarrassed, it provided entertainment and sparked discussions among football fans.
