Manchester United is gearing up for a major squad overhaul this summer, with the club reportedly planning to offload on-loan winger Facundo Pellistri permanently. Sources close to the club have informed Football Insider about United’s intention to sanction the 22-year-old’s departure if they receive what they consider to be an acceptable offer.
Pellistri, who joined United from Uruguayan side Penarol in 2020 for a reported fee of £9 million, was sent out on loan to La Liga outfit Granada during the January transfer window. The loan agreement did not include an option for Granada to make the move permanent, providing United with the opportunity to explore other options for Pellistri’s future.
Despite limited opportunities at Granada, Pellistri has managed to make an impact, contributing a goal and an assist in just three appearances. His notable performance came in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Barcelona earlier this month, where he showcased his potential on the big stage.
Prior to his loan spell, Pellistri made 14 appearances for Manchester United this season, providing one assist in the Premier League. However, he struggled to secure regular playing time under manager Erik ten Hag, making only one league start against Crystal Palace and one Champions League start against Bayern Munich.
United’s decision to part ways with Pellistri is part of a broader strategy to revamp the squad under the ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has ambitious plans to transform the club. With a significant change expected in the face of their squad, including the departure of defender Raphael Varane at the end of the season, United is keen to make strategic moves in the transfer market.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Manchester United will be looking to maximize their resources by offloading players deemed surplus to requirements. Pellistri’s departure could be one of the first steps in reshaping the squad as the club aims to return to the summit of English and European football.
