As difficult as it sounds to get 10 wickets in an innings, the number of cricketers who held this record till now made it more appreciative. Many cricketers have taken 10 wickets in test matches, but it is mostly the sum of the wickets taken in the first and the second innings. Jim Laker
England’s Jim Kaler was the first cricketer to claim all 10 wickets of the opposition team in an innings. Back in 1956 when England were playing against Australia in the Ashes at home. In the fourth test, the 35 year old English off spinner dismantled the Australia’s batting line-up and picked first ever 10-wicket haul in an innings in cricket history. He achieved the figures of 10/53 in 51.3 overs.
Anil Kumble
After Jim Kaler’s stupendous bowling performance in 1956, it took more than 4 decades to reach the record set by him. It was former India captain Anil Kumble who became the second cricketer to achieve that feat in his cricket career. Pakistan’s team visited India for a two-match test series. In the 2nd test match of the series played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, India, the memorable moment for Anil Kumble came in the second innings of the test match, where Anil Kumble looked unstoppable. Due to his 10-wicket haul, Pakistan was stopped at 207 in the second innings as India won the test match by 212 runs. Anil Kumble bowling figures were 10/74 in 26.3 overs.
Ajaz Patel
In 2021, New Zealand’s bowler Ajaz Patel became the third bowler to achieve a 10-wicket haul in test cricket. New Zealand was playing against India. In the second test match played at Wankhede Stadium, Ajaz Patel troubled the Indian batters from the start of the game and sent four back to the pavilion on the first day of the match and continued putting pressure on the Indian batters on the second day. The left-arm spinner picked 6 more wickets in the second day to reach the magical record of 10-wicket haul in an innings. Ajaz Patel records 10/119 in 47.5 overs.
