Afghanistan A vs Sri Lanka A: Afghanistan(A) lifted their maiden ACC Emerging Asia Cup trophy with an exceptional victory over Sri Lanka(A) in the final.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka (A) chose to bat first. Yashodha Lanka and Lahiru Udara opened the innings for Sri Lanka, and they were wiped off early in the powerplay by Bilal Sami. Soon, skipper Nuwanidu Fernando and Ahan Wickramasinghe were sent back to the pavilion as Sri Lanka (A) had a top-order collapse. Sahan Arachchige and Pavan Rathnayake partnered briefly, but a desperate attempt to take a double cost him his wicket. Sahan Arachchige counterattacked with his batting skills and scored fifty in the final. Nimesh Vimukthi contributed 23 runs in the team’s total to take the score to 133/7 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 134 runs, Afghanistan’s start wasn’t good as Sahan Arachchige cleaned opener Zubaid Akbari in the very first ball of the chase. Skipper Darwish Rasooli and Sediqullah Atal partnered for the second wicket and started closing the chase gap. In the fifth over of the powerplay, skipper Rasoli and Sediqullah hit 19 runs, which put pressure back on Sri Lanka. Skipper Darwish Rasooli got out in the seventh over, but that didn’t let Afghanistan change its way as Karim Janat and left-handed batter Atal partnered well for the third wicket to take their team close to the target. Sediqullah remained not out on 55 runs as Afghanistan(A) chased the target in 18.2 overs.
