After going 2-4 in his last 6 fights in the octagon, UFC lightweight Michael Chandler has another task for the coming weekend. He will be fighting the rising lightweight contender and, so far, undefeated on the UFC roster, Paddy Pimblett. The Brit has risen to the challenges thrown at him, and this is the first time he will be fighting a fighter in the top 10. It will be an exciting co-main event as both fighters are known for their finishes.
Fighters like Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira have accused Michael Chandler since time immemorial. Dustin Poirier called him a “Dirty Fighter” for cheating at UFC 281, and Oliveira claimed that the “Iron” hit him multiple times on the back of his head in the rematch at UFC 309. Addressing the accusations ahead of UFC 314, Chandler said this.
I mean, the narrative is tough, man, People don’t really know me. Unless you’re in my inner circle, you don’t know who I truly am outside of [being] in front of the camera. People have their sneaky suspicions that I play nice in front of the camera, and I’m a bad guy behind the camera. You’re always going to have those accusations, right?
Michael Chandler told MMA Fighting
Chandler explained that he has respected every fighter he fought, and it’s not up to him what narratives about him are in the media. He left the “cheating” narrative to the media.
But I know who I am, and I know who I am at my core; I’m a guy who tries to do things right, tries to treat people right, do things with honor and respect. So the cheating narrative is a little tough for me, but also, it’s all part of the court of public opinion, man.”
