At the start of day 2 of the World Test Championship final, Australian bowlers didn’t let the South African batters score runs easily. After getting some early shocks, Steve Smith and Breau Webster’s partnership helped the defending champions put 212 runs on the board before getting bowled out by South Africa in 56.4 overs; Kagiso Rabada scalped 5 wickets for his team. Australia bounced back in the bowling attack by scalping 4 wickets of South Africa at the end of Day 1 at Lord’s on the score of 43 runs. Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham kept running the scoreboard from the start of Day 2.
Both batters took the score to 94 runs and brought down the trail, but the delivery of Pat Cummins forced Bavuma to make a mistake as he got caught at short-cover by Marnus Labuschagne. David Bedingham held his end, but South Africa kept losing wickets from the other. Pat Cummins picked up six wickets as Australia stopped South Africa on 138 runs and took the lead of 74 in the first innings.
In their second innings, Australia lost Usman Khwaja early, and then Cameron Green got caught at slip on a duck. Steve Smith couldn’t bat like he did in the first and got out after scoring just 13 runs this time. Lungi Ngidi gave hard times to the batters afterward. Alex Carey gave the fight to the South African bowling attack and hit a crucial 43 runs for his team before getting out.
South Africa scalped eight wickets as Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon helped their team survive the Day 2 of the final. The lead of Australia is 218 runs till the end of day 2 as the spectators expect an intense Day 3.
