IND vs ENG, 4th Test, Day 2: India Bowled Out For 358, England Scored 225/2 At Stumps

Ben Stokes after taking a fifer in a test match

India, after getting a setback on Day 1 when Rishabh Pant got retired hurt, started Day 2 with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur on the crease. Jofra Archer with the new ball started troubling the batters and found the edge multiple times, but it didn’t get carried at slips. The patience paid off as Ravindra Jadeja got beaten by the swing in the 85th over, and at slips, Harry Brook took a great catch to dismiss the all-rounder. Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur took the scoreboard past the mark of 300 runs.

Unfortunately, Shardul Thakur got out after scoring 41 runs as Ben Duckett took a brilliant catch at backward point. India were 6 down and then came Rishabh Pant, barely walking to take the guard, and the spectators rose to cheer the batter’s grit to play for his team. The rain delayed the match for a bit, and when it resumed, England’s skipper, Ben Stokes, completed his fifer for the first time in eight years by dismissing Washington Sundar and the debutant Anshul Kambhoj.

Rishabh Pant showed his resilience and scored his fifty, but Jofra Archer, using his pace, broke the defense of Rishabh Pant to dismiss the batter, and it didn’t take much time for the England bowlers to bowl out India as the latter scored 358 runs in the first innings.

Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley came to open for England’s side, and the openers gave a solid start to their side. Both batters weren’t just closing the trail gap, they were doing it at an incredible pace, a great display of their “Bazball” strategy. Both batters scored their fifties and put 166 runs on the board for the first wicket. Ravindra Jadeja got the first breakthrough for India as he dismissed Zak Crawley on 84 runs, and then Anshul Kambhoj picked the wicket of Ben Duckett to open his wickets account in test cricket. England put 225 runs on the board at the end of Day 2.
