India Champions remained adamant in their stance of not playing with Pakistan Champions in the World Championship of Legends tournament due to geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan since the Pahalgam terror attack. The two teams are set to compete in a T20 match at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. However, similar to the league stage, India Champions refused to play against Pakistan, which led to Pakistan advancing to the tournament’s finals.

The organisers of the WCL released a statement after determining India’s stance not to play against Pakistan and announced that Pakistan Champions are in the finals of the WCL.

At WCL, we have always believed in the power of sport to inspire and bring about positive change in the world. However, public sentiment must always be respected – after all, everything we do is for our audience. We respect the India Champions’ decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions’ readiness to compete. Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off. As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final.”

Veterans like Harbhajan Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, and Yuvraj Singh decided not to play against Pakistan Champions in the semi-finals as well after refusing to play in the league stage. Sponsors like Ease My Trip have already withdrawn from the tournament, citing India’s stance. The founder of the company, Nishant Pitti, posted a statement on X, calling it a right move as “Terror and Sports can’t go hand in hand”.

Pakistan Champions have advanced to the finals, with the second finalist spot still up for grabs. Australia Champions and South Africa Champions will clash at Edgbaston, Birmingham, today, with the winner securing a place in the finals to face Pakistan.
