India get straight into eight women's T20 2024 qualifiers

India had a productive run at the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup, finishing inside the top-three of their group to become one of the eight teams who have automatically qualified for the 2024 event. Despite falling short in the semi-finals against eventual title winners Australia, India have made great strides with their slowly but surely improving women’s cricket that they can take pride in. With 2022 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in New Zealand less than two years away and now the 2024 T20 WC already guaranteed, it is evident that Indian women are well on track to achieving new heights and competing with the top nations in international cricket.

The World Cup being held in Bangladesh and Pakistan this year is sure to be a live-wire of excitement accumulated from the intense competition between teams. With the top-three teams in each of the two groups automatically advancing as well as hosts Bangladesh and Pakistan taking up their ranks, traditional powerhouses such as India, England, Australia and New Zealand have plenty of challenging opposition from other countries across continents. Additionally, with Afghanstan’s successful ascension to international cricket status, it is expected that the tournament will serve not just as a display for existing reputed teams but also open up encouraging platforms for cricketers across different levels. A truly international affair, the World Cup isn’t to be missed!

The recently held T20 World Cup featured some of the top teams from around the world in two different groups. Groups 1 and 2 boasted a variety of talented teams, which made for an unforgettable tournament. Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa battled a stellar lineup in Group 1 to qualify for the playoffs and then onto the finals. Group 2 was no less competitive – England, India, and the West Indies ultimately overcame their respective opponents to take their places in the forthcoming tournaments. Unfortunately, only two teams didn’t make it through this thrilling competition: Sri Lanka and Ireland. Despite not advancing however, both countries should be proud to have been part of such a nostalgic event that delighted fans everywhere.

With powerhouses from all around the world vying for a spot in the upcoming 2023 World Cup, Sri Lanka and Ireland are next in line to battle it out for a position in the ODI rankings. Currently, Sri Lanka stands within the top eight list at eighth place, while Ireland holds its ground with a decent tenth. Keeping an eye on their main rivals, these two countries have decided to take part in a global qualifier match in early 2024; this match, as announced by ICC’s release, will determine which of them secures one of the remaining two available spots up for grabs. It is surely going to be an intense affair between these two cricketing nations who are praying hard for a successful campaign that could lead to one of them achieving their dream; that of participating in the prestigious tournament.
