South African Cricket Administrator Passes Away at 92

The announcement of Joe‘s passing has prompted many in the cricket community to reflect on the immense impact he had. His outgoing and determined personality saw him rise to become a respected leader among those playing and working in the game. He created an atmosphere that encouraged everyone around him to strive for greatness, while always looking out for the best interests of all involved. While Joe’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, his passion and achievements will live on in cricket forever. We send our condolences to Joe’s family at this tough time, and are grateful for everything he did to make the game better during his lifetime.

Sydney Charles Pamensky was an influential figure in the South African cricket community. His drive for cricket excelled when he was elected to the South African Cricket Association in 1967. From that point on, he worked hard to negotiate the unification of the provinces into one powerful organisation- leading to the formation of SACU (South African Cricket Union) in 1976. He and Geoff Dakin assumed responsibility as presidents of that union on a two-year rotating basis throughout their tenure there. His lasting legacy earned him life membership from the MCC and later, a gold medal by his own government for Outstanding Service in 1987.

Uncle Joe was a remarkable figure, universally beloved, respected and industrious. He was greatly admired by many generations of players and cricket fans, and it is no surprise that the Lions Cricket CEO has spoken so fondly of him. His enthusiasm for and dedication to the sport will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Not only did Joe strive to take the game to new levels of excellence – he also helped create an unrivaled sense of unity throughout the cricketing world. His courage in the face of adversity serves as a reminder to us all that difficult times can be conquered with hard work, patience, and integrity. We are forever in his debt; thank you for your service Uncle Joe – may you never be forgotten!
