As Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty aim for their first title, nine Indian badminton players gear up for the Indonesia Masters 2024. Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth seek improved form in a challenging draw, while HS Prannoy eyes a strong performance after reaching the semis at the India Open.
Amidst the BWF Super 500 event, Indian doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, ranked No. 2 globally, have their sights set on the Indonesia Masters 2024 title. The duo, having finished as runners-up at the Malaysia and India Opens, looks to add a championship to their achievements in Jakarta.
Having clinched the Indonesia Open men’s doubles title last year, Rankireddy and Shetty have favorable memories of playing in Jakarta. The Indian pair will commence their campaign against a team from the qualifiers.
Apart from the doubles pair, five Indian shuttlers feature in the men’s singles draw, including Lakshya Sen and Kidambi Srikanth. Sen faces a tough challenge against China’s Weng Hong Yang, who previously caused his first-round exit at the Malaysia Open. Srikanth encounters Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia, a former All England champion and current world No. 10.
HS Prannoy, seeded seventh, aims for a strong run in men’s singles after reaching the semis at the India Open. However, Prannoy faces a formidable opening draw against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, a former world champion.
With the Paris 2024 Olympics qualification in focus, the Indonesia Masters 2024 holds significance, offering qualifying ranking points. The competition provides a crucial opportunity for Indian shuttlers to bolster their chances of securing a spot in the upcoming Olympic Games.
As the qualification window for badminton commenced on May 1 last year, Indian players seek success in Jakarta to enhance their Olympic dreams and make a mark on the ongoing badminton calendar.
