Afghanistan and England cricket team players after match

Afghanistan vs. England: Afghanistan once again crushed England in the big match, defeating them by 8 runs in a tight contest.

After winning the toss, Afghanistan’s skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi decided to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran opened for their team. Both batters were reading the conditions, but Jofra Archer didn’t give Gurbaz enough time to settle and dismissed him in the 5th over of the match. Soon, Sediqullah Atal and Rahmat Shah got out as Afghanistan lost 3 wickets for 37 runs. Zadran and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi built the partnership for the 4th wicket and kept running the scoreboard. Shahidi got out in the 30th over of the match while trying to reverse sweep. Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi contributed from the other end by scoring 40 runs each; meanwhile, Zadran kept scoring runs from his end and became the first batter from Afghanistan to score a century in the Champions Trophy.

Ibrahim Zadran got out after scoring 177 runs, and Afghanistan posted 325 on the board at the end of 50 overs.

Chasing 326 runs, England’s start wasn’t good as Phil Salt got out after scoring 12 runs. Soon, Mohammad Nabi dismissed Jamie Smith as Afghanistan lost 2 wickets on the score of 30. Joe Root and Ben Duckett started taking the innings forward and started building the partnership, but in the 7th over, Rashid Khan dismissed Duckett, and then Nabi caught Harry Brook. Skipper Jos Buttler showed the resistance, and Joe Root continued from one side. Joe Root scored his century, and England was in control, but it was the all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai who picked the wicket of Joe Root to make a comeback, and Afghanistan held its nerves to bowl out England for 317 to win the match by 8 runs.

Afghanistan vs England, Match 8th, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Captains’ Corner

As a team we are happy and I’m sure the whole nation will be happy with this win,” The first time we beat them in the 2023 World Cup. I keep saying that we are improving day by day as a team, and that’s what we’ve showed at the last couple of world cups. Today it was a tense game, but we controlled it really well. I’m happy with the result.”

Hashmatullah Shahidi(Afghanistan Captain) said post-match

It’s really disappointing. I thought we had our chances in the game. Another fantastic game of cricket, but disappointing to come out on the wrong side. They got away from us there in the last 10 overs. Credit to Ibrahim, he played a fantastic innings. If we look back and reflect, 113 off the last 10 pushed them up to a score that was a very good score on that pitch.
