India’s right-handed batter Ajinkya Rahane, aka Jinks,” is one of the batters in the cricket world who is as classic as lethal with his batting style. Ajinkya Rahane’s Childhood and Early life:

Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane was born on June 6, 1988, to Madhukar Baburao Rahane (his father) and Sujata Rahane (his mother) in Ashwini village of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He was just 7 years old when his father took him to a small coaching camp, and when he was 17 years old, he started training under the guidance of former India cricketer Pravin Amre. He did his schooling at SV Joshi High School in Dombivali, Maharashtra.

Domestic Cricket:

Due to his performance in the India U-19 team, he scored two centuries when the Indian team toured New Zealand in 2007, and he got selected for the Mohammed Nissar Trophy in Pakistan, where he did his first-class debut playing against Karachi Urban in Pakistan. He was representing Mumbai back then and scored a century in his debut match, and he had his Ranji Trophy debut in 2007-08. He scored 1089 runs in his second season of the Ranji Trophy, due to which Mumbai won its 38th title. In the Deodhar Trophy, he was named captain of the team, India’s C squad, and sailing over his centurion innings, his team won that year’s title. He scored 144 not out in the final of the Deodhar Trophy.

IPL Career:

Ajinkya Rahane’s IPL career started back in 2008 when he played for Mumbai Indians, but he got only limited opportunities there. He came into the limelight when he became part of the Rajasthan Royals in 2012. Shane Watson knew the caliber of Rahane and included him in the team under Rahul Dravid and Shane Watson, Rahane improved really well and showed his batting talent to the world. He had a great run in the IPL 2012 for the Rajasthan Royals, opening the innings for the Rajasthan Royals. He scored his first IPL century in that year and ended as the highest run-scorer for his team. Due to his performance, he was retained by the Rajasthan Royals. Later he became the part of Rising Pune Super Giants as Rajasthan Royals got banned for two years in 2017 and 18 he played for RPS. International Career:

Ajinkya Rahane made his international test debut in the 2012-13 Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, but he failed to impress with his bat despite being included in the team for India’s tour of South Africa. In the first test match, he scored 96 runs against the South African pace attack. Since then, he has made regular test cricket appearances for team India; in fact, in 2014, while playing a test match against England at Lord’s, he scored his second test century, marking his name on the Lord’s honor board, which even the great Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara failed to do. He made his ODI debut in 2011 against England and scored 40 runs in his debut match. Later, he was included in India’s team for the Asia Cup 2013-14 but failed to impress with the bat.

His career in the ODI format has been random, as he was sometimes played as an opener and sometimes as a middle order batter, which broke his rhythm. In T20Is, he didn’t have that much impact, though his start in the T20Is was good as he scored fifty in his debut match, but afterwards he failed to impress.

  • He is the record holder for the most number of catches in an innings (5) and the most number of catches in a match of Test cricket (8).
  • He is ranked 13th in the most number of 50s in consecutive innings in ODI(5).
  • In T20Is, he is in the number one position for taking the most number of catches in a match (4).
  • He is the fifth Indian to score centuries in each innings of a test match.
  • The first batter to hit six fours in six balls of an over in an IPL match
  • He was the Indian cricketer of the year 2014–15.
