Hobart Hurricanes won the BBL 14 final by 7 wickets.
Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and chose to field. Jason Sangha and David Warner started their team’s innings and gave the needed start. Both batters were aggressive in their approach and scored 97 runs in 10 overs. In the 11th over, Hobart Hurricanes’ skipper Nathan Ellis picked up David Warner’s wicket to provide his team the first breakthrough. In the next delivery, he sent Matthew Gilkes to the dugout on a duck. Jason Sangha brought his fifty and scored 67 runs before McDermott caught him at covers. Some contributions from Oliver Davies and Chris Green scored 182 runs at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing the target of 183 runs, Hobart Hurricanes’ opened with Mitchell Owen and Caleb Jewell, where the former, instead of going cautious at the beginning of the powerplay, went on with attack mode. He hit his first six in the 4th delivery of the first over and didn’t stop after that. In just 2 overs, Mitchell Owen took his team’s score beyond 40 runs. There was no bowler who didn’t get the treatment from the batter as he scored his fifty in just 16 balls. At the end of the powerplay, Hobart Hurricanes’ score was 98/0, with Owen leading the scoreboard. Caleb Jewell got out after contributing 13 runs, and Nikhil Chaudhary got out next, but Owen continued and scored 100 in just 39 balls to ensure a smooth victory for his team. McDermott finished the game with a boundary as Hobart Hurricanes won the final by 7 wickets.
