Ben Stokes returns from retirement and is named in England’s ODI squad against New Zealand.

Ben Stokes

One man in the Cricket world who was in the news in the past three years was England’s left-handed batter and Test captain Ben Stokes. From the past three to four years, he has been playing innings after innings where he pulled the victory for his team from the jaws of defeat, whether it’s a Test, ODI, or T20I. He proved himself as a vital player in England’s squad; in fact, his innings in the last ICC ODI CWC final proved his mettle as he played the match-winning innings for the team and helped England grab their maiden ICC ODI CWC title.

Ben Stokes announced his retirement from the ODI format back in July 2022, and since then he has been out of the team in ODI matches, though he played in the ICC T20 World Cup and once again saved his team and helped England claim the T20 title for the second time. His inclusion in the ODI squad became even more suspicious after the batter suffered a knee injury and almost skipped the entire IPL 2023, but the all-rounder showed the fighting spirit and represented his nation in the Ashes Test and played captain’s innings in some matches, but during the press conference after the Ashes 2023 he didn’t confirm his return to the ODI squad.

But now it is official that Ben Stokes is returning to England’s ODI squad with a few months remaining in the ODI World Cup. England announced the squad for the New Zealand ODI series, and Luke Wright is optimistic about Ben Stokes return to the team.

“We have been able to name two extremely strong squads that underline the depth of talent we enjoy in white-ball cricket. The return of Ben Stokes only adds to that quality with his match-winning ability and leadership. I am certain that every fan will enjoy seeing him back in an England ODI shirt again,”
