SKN Patriots vs SLK: St Lucia Kings are back to winning ways with 5-wicket victory over SKN Patriots in the match 14th of the Caribbean Premier League 2024.
After winning the toss, SLK’s captain, Faf du Plessis, chose to bowl first. SKN Patriots’ skipper Andre Fletcher and Evin Lewis started the innings, and the skipper took charge and attacked the bowlers; Evin Lewis stayed at one end and scored 15 runs before getting caught at point. Kyle Mayers got into the crease to support his captain and hit a few shots before getting bowled by Roston Chase. Andre Fletcher kept going and scored his fifty. Another batter, Rilee Rossouw, scored his fifty and helped his team reach 173/5 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 174, St Lucia Kings got the start needed as skipper Faf du Plessis and opener Johnson Charles showed their intent to finish the match early from the first over of the second innings. Both batters started dealing in boundaries, and inside 4 overs of the powerplay, they crossed the mark of 50. No bowler of the Patriots could stop the onslaught led by Faf and Johnson Charles. Faf brought his fifty in style by hitting 3 consecutive sixes as both had a partnership of 100+ runs in 11 overs. Faf got caught behind in the 11th over as they lost their first wicket, but the damage was done, and Johnson Charles’ 74 ensured a victory for his team. SLK reached the target in 16.3 overs.

It was really good. Great bowling performance from our guys. 170 feels 20 short on this wicket. (On Descarte and Wiese’s catches) Great catches – the boys have been catching well. These catches are really important (against guys that can hurt you). (On their intent in the powerplay) Really important to put the pressure on the bowlers. Chasing 170, you can break the back of the opposition when you do that. Glad we could do it. Important that one guy also bats through and Charles did that beautifully. We turned it around nicely tonight. Important after two back-to-back losses. We wanted to give the fans something to smile about and glad we could do that.

We started well in the powerplay and I thought we slowed down a bit in the middle. Our strike rate could have been better, especially me. But Rilee played a good knock. With his height and pace, he is very effective with the new ball. Unfortunately, it was not his day today. We have three more games left. We don’t have a choice but to go out there and play cricket. We have to find a way to win. We have been on the losing side for six games and we have to try our best. (Next game against Royals) We played them at home – they will come hard at us. We have to believe in ourselves and try to execute as well as possible, with the bat, the ball and in the field.
